Dental Implant FAQ
What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a prosthetic device used to replace a missing tooth. It consists of a small titanium post inserted into the jawbone, which acts as an artificial root. Implants can support a single crown, a bridge, or even a denture. They are the closest alternative to a natural tooth in both appearance and function.
How long will an implant last?
With proper care and routine dental visits, implants are designed to last a lifetime. Longevity depends on factors such as oral hygiene, gum health, and lifestyle habits, so following post-implant care instructions is essential.
Are dental implants safe?
Yes. When performed by qualified dental professionals, dental implants are considered safe and have been successfully used for decades. Like any medical procedure, complications are possible, but they are uncommon when proper planning and care are followed.
What is the recovery time?
Recovery varies from patient to patient. After the implant post is placed by the oral surgeon, a healing period of 3-4 months is needed to allow the implant to fuse with the bone. Once healing is complete, your dentist will place the abutment and crown, allowing you to return to normal function with your new tooth.
What are the benefits of dental implants?
Dental implants are the most natural-feeling and natural-looking tooth replacement option available. They:
- Restore full chewing ability
- Maintain bone health
- Do not rely on neighboring teeth for support
- Look, feel, and function like your natural teeth
- Provide a confident, long-lasting smile
Partials & Dentures FAQ
What is the difference between a denture and a partial?
A full denture replaces all the teeth in an upper or lower arch. A partial denture replaces only the missing teeth and attaches around your natural teeth with clasps. Both options are removable.
How are dentures made?
We take detailed impressions of your mouth and send them to a professional dental lab. Depending on the design, dentures can be made from acrylic, metal frameworks, or a combination of materials. The careful impression process ensures a snug, comfortable fit.
What are the benefits of dentures and partials?
When teeth are missing, the remaining teeth can shift, break, or wear down due to uneven pressure. Dentures and partials help restore proper function, protect remaining teeth, improve chewing, and provide an affordable tooth-replacement solution.
How do I care for my dentures or partials?
- Remove and brush daily with a soft denture brush—avoid toothpaste, which can be too abrasive.
- Soak overnight in a denture-soaking solution to help kill bacteria and remove common stains.
- Rinse after meals to remove food particles.
- Handle carefully to avoid bending clasps or dropping the appliance. It is a good practice to clean them over a sink with a few inches of water in it, that way if they are accidentally dropped, they will land in the water instead of something hard that can break or bend them
How long will my denture or partial last?
With proper care and routine dental visits, dentures and partials can last many years. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, gum health, appliance maintenance, and lifestyle habits. Keeping up with your oral health is the best way to ensure your appliance lasts as long as possible.
