Dental implants act as artificial tooth roots, placed into the jawbone to support a variety of tooth replacement solutions. Thanks to modern implant techniques, we are able to offer:

Single and Multiple Tooth Replacement

An implant can replace one or several missing teeth by recreating both the natural tooth and its root. This option allows us to avoid placing a traditional bridge, which would require altering healthy neighboring teeth. The implant’s “root” offers strong support and helps maintain healthy jawbone structure.

Bridge and Partial Retention

Implants can also support bridges or partial dentures without relying on adjacent teeth. This avoids the extra stress or treatment a traditional bridge would require. Because the implant replaces the root, it helps preserve bone and maintain long-term oral health.

Upper and Lower Denture Retention

How Dental Implants Work

Implants are popular because they closely mimic the structure, look, and strength of natural teeth. The artificial root is placed into the jawbone under local anesthesia. Over the next several months, the bone naturally integrates with the implant in a process called osseointegration.

Once the implant has fused with the bone—typically within 3-4 months—you will return to the office to have the new tooth structure (crown, bridge, or denture attachment) placed. With proper care, implants are considered a lifelong restoration.

What to Expect

If you’re considering a dental implant, your first visit will be a consultation with your family dentist. During this appointment, the dentist will examine the area where the implant is needed and may take X-rays to evaluate the bone level and surrounding tissues. Your overall oral health, gum condition, and medical history will also be carefully reviewed to ensure you are a good candidate.

If dental implants are an appropriate option for you, impressions will be taken in the office and sent to a dental laboratory for planning and fabrication. Your dentist will then send a referral to an oral surgeon who will complete the surgical portion of the implant process.

Surgical visit at the Oral Surgeon after 2-3 months of healing

At the oral surgeon’s office, the next steps will begin:

• If a tooth needs to be removed, this will be done under local anesthesia or sedation to keep you comfortable.
• If your jawbone needs additional support, bone grafting may be performed at the same time.
• The titanium implant post is then placed into the jawbone, sometimes at the extraction appointment, but more often it is placed after 2-3 months of healing.

Healing Phase

After surgery, the natural healing process—called osseointegration—begins. During this period, the bone fuses securely with the implant. This typically takes 3-4 months. Once healing is complete, you will contact your family dentist to schedule the placement of your abutment and crown.

Final Appointment

At your final visit, your dentist will attach the abutment and crown to the implant post using specialized tools. The crown is custom-designed to match the size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. You will leave this appointment with your new permanent tooth in place, ready for normal function and smiling confidently.

Post-Implant Care

Good oral hygiene is essential for maintaining healthy dental implants. Although implants don’t get cavities, the gums and bone around them can become infected if plaque and bacteria are not properly removed.

Poor home care can lead to:

• Gum inflammation
• Bone loss around the implant
• Loosening or failure of the implant

To protect your investment, we recommend:

• Brushing and flossing daily
• Using any additional cleaning tools your dentist recommends
• Professional cleanings at least twice a year

Full & Partial Dentures

Full and partial dentures are removable appliances designed to replace one or more missing teeth. They come in a variety of styles and materials, and it’s important to understand the benefits and limitations of each option before deciding what’s best for you.

Full Dentures

A full (or complete) denture replaces an entire arch of teeth—upper, lower, or both. When a full denture is out of the mouth, only the gums remain. Full dentures are custom-made to restore your smile, improve chewing function, and support your facial structure.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. They replace missing teeth using a combination of prosthetic teeth supported by your existing ones. Partials can be made from metal, acrylic, or a mix of both. Typically, they include a gum-colored base and small metal clasps that gently wrap around natural teeth to hold the appliance securely in place.

Why Choose Dentures or Partials?

Dentures and partials are a cost-effective, minimally invasive alternative to dental implants. They can be completed right in your family dental office, often in as few as two visits. They can also be adjusted over time as your mouth naturally changes. If you lose another tooth in the future, an additional tooth can often be added to an existing partial. Like a new pair of glasses, these appliances may feel different at first, but with consistent wear, most patients adapt quickly and comfortably.

What to Expect

Consultation

Your first visit will include an exam to assess your existing teeth and ensure they are healthy enough to support a partial or that you are ready for full dentures. X-rays may be taken to evaluate bone levels and surrounding tissues. We will also review your oral health, gum condition, and medical history to determine if dentures or partials are a good fit for you.

Treatment Planning & Impressions

If dentures or partials are appropriate, any needed dental work—such as extractions or fillings—will be completed first. After that, precise impressions are taken and sent to a dental laboratory for fabrication.

Fabrication & Try-In

The dental lab typically takes 2–3 weeks to create the appliance. When it arrives, you’ll return for a “try-in” appointment. If the fit and appearance meet both yours and the doctor’s expectations, the appliance is returned to the lab for final processing. Then, the fit and appearance will be evaluated again, any necessary adjustments will be made, and you take the appliance home that day.

Getting Used to Your Appliance

It’s common to need a few adjustments within the first few weeks. Consistent wear is important—even if a spot is rubbing—because it helps the dentist identify exactly where adjustments are needed. These small changes help achieve the most comfortable and secure fit.
